Glossary
Core terminology, consistently defined.
A reference for core Tracta terminology. These are the terms used throughout the product and this site — consistently, deliberately, and with specific meaning.
Core Concepts
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Record | The base unit of Tracta. Any tracked item with Fields, a Type, and a lifecycle. Documents, Transmittals, Packages, Contacts, and Companies are all Records. |
| Record Type | The category of a Record — Document, Transmittal, Package, Contact, Company, and more as the product grows. |
| Field | A structured metadata value attached to a Record. Every Record has Fields. |
| System Field | A Field automatically extracted or maintained by Tracta — document number, revision, discipline, issue date, status. No manual entry required. |
| Custom Field | A Field defined by your team or organisation. Add the metadata that matters to your project. |
| Schema | The full set of Fields defined for a Record Type. The Schema determines what a Record can hold. |
Record Types
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Document | A Record representing a file — drawing, specification, report, or similar. The core unit of design information in Tracta. |
| Revision | A versioned instance of a Document, tracked within that Document's history. Every upload of a new version creates a Revision. |
| Package | A Record that groups a collection of other Records. Can be sent via a Transmittal or used independently as an organising unit. Has its own Fields and Schema. |
| Transmittal | A Record that formalises the sending of documents or a Package between parties for a defined purpose. Has its own Status and lifecycle, independent of the Records it carries. |
Structure & Navigation
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Workflow | A sequence of actions or approvals applied to a Record or Package — internal review, sign-off, or release steps. |
| Register | A structured, filterable view of all Records of a given type. The Drawing Register. The Transmittal Register. Always current. |
| Status | The current lifecycle state of a Record — Draft, Under Review, Approved, Superseded, and others depending on the Record Type. |
